‘Tis the Season to Get Involved

As we enter December, the weather might be getting colder (or still unseasonably mild, depending on the day of the week) but spirits are rising as the countdown to Christmas begins. Our partners have all had a great year, but it’s not over yet, so for those who are looking for some fun ways to get into the Christmas spirit, we’ve put together a few ideas for how you could get involved.

Our friends at Challengers show no signs of slowing down with numerous activities on offer. Those in the Guildford area might be familiar with their sponsored events but for any keen runners looking for some motivation, on Sunday 8th December their Santa Fun Run takes place. Bring along friends, family or your running club and choose between three brilliant routes – a 2.5km, 5km, or 5km. They can ensure the 2.5k route is accessible for wheelchair users or those with buggies, and reindeers (dogs) are welcome to take part. Each entrant will receive a Santa hat, and they encourage runners to join in festive fancy dress of your choice to bring more fun to this run! With prizes for the best dressed adult, child and dog and 100% of donations going to Challengers, what better way to get you in the festive spirit! To find out more visit their event page here.

Those living further afield or looking for something a little less active, their Art Auction is currently live, running until 6th December. On offer is a wonderful range of paintings, prints, photography, textiles, and ceramics so there is plenty to choose from! You can get your pieces in time for Christmas to give to family and friends so if you’re looking for a unique gift and would like to make a difference at the same time, visit their page for more info.

Lastly for Challengers, the firm favourite Christmas cards are back, with two exciting new designs for 2024! You can write to friends and loved ones knowing that 100% of funds go towards supporting their projects - find them here.

Habitat for Humanity are also providing a chance to get into the Christmas spirit with their ever-popular Gingerbread House Challenge. The perfect chance to work together with colleagues or to get a little competitive with friends and family, finishing with a delicious treat to enjoy at the end! Find out more here.

Amongst the Christmas shopping, it’s essential to treat yourself too and Habitat ReStore is now open for business so why not take a look at some of the fantastic items they have for sale. You could bag a bargain and know that you’re supporting their projects and the environment at the same time. Alternatively, if you have some items taking up space, they’re always looking for donations!

You can also support them through their ‘Give As You Live’ page, where a number of different online shops will make a donation with every purchase or send a Christmas e-card. Visit their website for more information about how to get involved.

This year, The Big Give runs from 3rd – 10th December and during this week long campaign, all donations you make through this portal will be matched, doubling your impact. Our friends at PEAS are aiming to raise £50,000 which will enable 715 girls to access life-changing secondary education. You can find out more on their blog Give Big so a Child can Live Big: Join PEAS this Christmas to Empower Girls Through Education.

Challengers and Habitat are also running their own campaigns so if you’ve been considering donating, this week is the perfect timing – just make sure you do it through The Big Give portal to ensure your donation gets matched! If you'd still like to help without making a donation, simply sharing their campaign is a great way to help them to get noticed.
