Reimagining our Future in a Complex World

We caught up with Pooran Desai, the Founder and CEO of OnePlanet.

We live in an increasingly complex world with many social, environmental and economic challenges. Never have we had so much knowledge and technology at our disposal. Can we use that knowledge and technology to enable us to reimagine a future where we can build the health of people + community + economy + planet? At OnePlanet we think so!

Digital tools and apps are connecting us as never before and we are connected by common global challenges such as climate change. Yet in other ways we are increasingly disconnected – from our local communities and from nature, which is damaging our society and our mental and physical health.

Many organisations are realising we need to identify and implement joined-up solutions.  We can’t solve issues in siloes. We won’t create a better future unless we make sure, for example, that solutions to jobs also have a positive impact on health and social justice.

OnePlanet is a technology platform that enables our users to understand how they can increase their total impact by identifying ‘Shared Outcomes’ with their ‘ecosystem’ of stakeholders, customers and supply chain, collaborate on these Shared Outcomes and track impact.

We use a different database structure (a so-called ‘graph database’ or ‘network database’) to enable mindmaps to be created and connected. It enables users to think differently as it accesses the right half of our brains and can help with neurodiversity inclusion. You can have a play at creating a OnePlanet mindmap on www.oneplanet.com

The platform is being used by the public, private and voluntary sectors for example the South Downs National Park and Building Bridges.  We are also excited now to be working with central government to explore joining the dots from national strategy to local implementation.

We are particularly excited to be exploring how OnePlanet can support reimagining education so it can be more aligned to our current challenges and opportunities, including promotion of ‘joined-up’ or ‘systems’ thinking.  We are delighted to be investigating ideas with Leo Lion partners, Pathways Education and the Design & Technology Association.

We look forward to sharing more on this later in the year but please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me, Pooran Desai, on pooran.desai@oneplanet.com
